TEATRO DO ABSURDO and INTEIRA (ENG: ABSURD THEATRE and WHOLE) are two wordless comics inspired by the lives of two recognized contemporary elderly painters who graduated and gave classes at FBAUP, namely, Carlos Carreiro and Graça Morais.

Upon invitation by professor Rui Vitorino Santos I developed these zines and stand-alone portraits as part of the doctoral project Wisdom Transfe.

TEATRO DO ABSURDO takes inspiration from the surrealism of Carlos Carreiro’s work, depicting the daring escape of stylized drawing from the confining realism of the classic art produced in academia.

INTEIRA, on the other hand, explores the reality of a female artist working in a male-domineered, dictatorship-driven Portugal during the 1960s, depicting the struggle between forging one’s own identity as a woman and adhering to stereotypes of being a housewife.
